Outline

The 4 day course aims to enable participants to:

• define the role and outline the responsibilities appropriate to the modern deputy head and assistant head so they are focused on the learning, progress and achievement of the learners linked to present and future needs.
• consider the roles in relation to others, particularly the headteacher
• learn how to plan for the strategic development of the school
• understand approaches to distributing leadership to maximise pupils' progress and achievement
• consider the implications of Every Child Matters, the most recent Ofsted Framework, the SEF and short-notice inspections, for the leaders of schools
• have a brief overview of the selection process to assist them in applying for the roles
